THE ORGANIZATION

In Malawi, the word "yamba" translates to "begin," which embodies the mission of Yamba Malawi: fostering brighter beginnings for the children while fostering lasting change within their communities. Established in 2006, Yamba Malawi is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating child poverty in the country. Since 2017, the organization has pioneered the only child-centric ultra-poverty graduation program in Malawi. This transformative initiative has benefited over 1,500 households by providing training, coaching, and essential resources in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and caregiving. These efforts enable families to address their children's needs while simultaneously breaking free from the cycle of poverty. In 2023, Yamba Malawi aims to expand its outreach by bringing its programs to five out of the 28 districts in Malawi.

Registered as a 501(c)(3) organization, Yamba Malawi maintains offices in both New York, USA, and Malawi to streamline its operations and maximize its impact.

THE POSITION

Yamba Malawi is seeking an experienced professional to contribute their high level of expertise to the organization and the program through the following position:

Position 1:                            Fundraising Manager (US)

THE POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Fundraising Manager (US) is expected to provide high-level support to the Director of Development & Communication. This position requires exceptional organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. The Fundraising Manager (US) will be responsible for assisting in development Operations, management of current and potential donors, and coordinating events and functions.

Specific duties include:

 Development Operations:

  • Lead Salesforce development optimization, including working with consultants to tailor the tool to Yamba Malawi’s specific needs and implementing underutilized features.

  • Support fundraising team in leveraging Salesforce as a primary tool to manage cultivation and stewardship activities for development relationships and tracking progress to revenue goals.

  • Ensure Salesforce database integrity via ongoing reconciliation, best practices and cataloguing organizational ways of working.

  • Maintain development dashboards and reports and analyze funding data to inform forecasting and goal setting.

  • Lead and conduct gift processing, acknowledgement, and tracking.

  • Liaise with vendor to perform monthly reconciliation of Salesforce with QuickBooks.

  • Manage development systems, processes, and platforms, including Classy, Mailchimp, Salesforce.

  • Support the creation of promotional materials including the annual report.

  • Organize online campaigns with creation of materials, timetable, and donor follow up.

  • Drive fundraising best practices, including systems utilization, prospecting, donor reporting, analytics, and donor communications. 

 Donor management:

  • Oversee monthly donors and special fundraising initiatives.

  • Work closely with board members and Yamba Malawi leadership providing assistance for special projects and campaigns.

  • Market and facilitate volunteer participation in fundraising events like marathons and manage and direct peer to peer fundraising efforts

  • Provide administrative support for grants management, including preparing proposal components.

  • Ensure proper tracking of grant communications in Salesforce, including proposals, reports, and other deliverables.

  • Track donor relationships and engagement in Salesforce.

  • Provide administrative and scheduling support for donor interactions.

  • Conduct donor stewardship with acknowledgement letters, receipts, and a calendar of regular, tailored communications.

  • Assist in refining and implementing development operation procedures, policies and strategies.

  • Collaborate on planning and special projects with colleagues across the fundraising team.

Events:

●      Manage the development and maintenance of event strategy, workplans, and budgets.

●      Act as the primary point of contact with external production teams, vendors, and event partners, collaborating to execute event plans for the Gala.

●      Organize execution and logistics, manage honorees, host committees, leadership participation, and invite lists for special events, board meetings, staff planning meetings and small donor-led events.

●      Develop corporate and individual relationships for in-kind donations and sponsorships to help minimize event costs and maximize fundraising potential.

●      Market and facilitate volunteer participation in fundraising events like marathons; manage and direct peer to peer fundraising efforts.

●      Recruit, train, and manage event volunteers to ensure smooth event execution.

●      Work closely with Yamba Malawi leadership on special projects as needed.


A.        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, RELEVANT EXPERIENCE PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILL AND COMPETENCIES

·       Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field preferred.

·       At least four (4) years’ proven experience working in a similar position.

·       Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.

·       Ability to work independently, take initiative, and anticipate needs.

·       Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality and discretion.

·       Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity in all interactions.

·       Ability to critically analyze and evaluate information and provide proper advice and guidance.

PROPOSAL FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FOUR CBCCs

The Organization

Yamba Malawi, is a registered non-governmental organization, which was founded in 2006 with the vision of creating a world where strong, self-reliant communities build brighter futures for children. The organization is pioneering an innovative Childhood and Livelihoods program aimed at addressing early childhood development by empowering their caregivers and communities to tackle the root cause of multiple early childhood vulnerabilities- poverty.

Yamba Malawi is seeking quotations from qualified construction firms to build four Community Based Childcare Centers (CBCCs) in Malawi. The project must comply with the design specifications and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Gender.

Project Consultant

Yamba Malawi seeks to carry out a midline evaluation for its Bwananyambi and an endline evaluation for Mtonda projects in Mangochi.
